2026 ICDH Special Exhibition

《Behind the Scenes, Memories in the Making》

 

 

A single photograph, a handwritten note,
and the small traces left behind by someone can travel through time and connect with others as shared memories.

The International Centre for Documentary Heritage (ICDH) is pleased to present its 2026 special exhibition,
《Behind the Scenes : Memories in the Making》.

Through documentary heritage inscribed on UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register,
this exhibition explores how ordinary moments and personal memories can, over time, become records remembered by the world.

The exhibition is composed of three sections.

The first section introduces the Sir Edmund Hillary Archive,
exploring not only the moment of reaching the summit of Mount Everest,
but also the life and relationships that continued afterward
through Hillary’s ongoing connection with Himalayan communities.

The second section focuses on The Baltic Way,
the human chain formed in 1989 by the people of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
It highlights the solidarity of ordinary citizens
and their shared hopes for freedom and independence.

The final section presents the Landsat Program Records,
showing how satellite images accumulated over decades
document changes in the Earth’s environment
and the traces of human activity across the planet.

The exhibition also includes an interactive space
where visitors can leave behind their own words and memories.

Through this experience, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on how records are not only traces of the past,
but also part of the lives we continue to create today.
