The Rebirth of Memory

The Pretty Little Duckling

The first book in ICDH’s educational content development project is a storybook designed to convey the value of records and deepen understanding of the Memory of the World program in a way that feels both engaging and meaningful.

The story centers around a bear and a duckling. These animals were chosen as main characters because they can be found worldwide, representing no specific age or gender, making it easy for readers from any country to relate to them. Inspired by the Memory of the World inscription "Manuscripts and Correspondence of Hans Christian Andersen," the story is set in Oslo, Norway, Andersen's birthplace.

Under the glowing moonlight, the bear and the duckling meet to share stories of the days they spent together. Through writing in their diaries, they discover the joy of preserving memories, realizing that they can cherish their precious time together for years to come.

Throughout our lives, we accumulate countless memories. Some we want to revisit and treasure, while others may be a bit embarrassing or best left in the past. Yet all these experiences play a part in our growth. By recording these memories, we prevent them from fading and create a meaningful narrative of who we are. Like Andersen, we hope these memories bring dreams and hope to friends across the world.
