The Rebirth of Memory

Opening Special Exhibition ‹ Into the Light : Memory of the World ›

In November 2023, ICDH opened its new space in the Jikji Special District of Cheongju, South Korea. This space, particularly designed for those with a keen interest in the center and in the Memory of the World, offers an open exhibition area on the second floor.

To celebrate the opening of this new building, ICDH has launched a special exhibition titled "Into the Light : Memory of the World." This exhibition, featuring over 100 pieces of the Memory of the World inscriptions, uses light and visual media to convey the profound significance and importance of these records. Visitors are invited to follow a journey of discovery, reflecting on how these documentary heritages have illuminated the world and contemplating what legacies they might contribute for a brighter future. The exhibition is structured into five themed spaces, each representing a unique journey.

Zone 1. Light against the Darkness
Zone 2. Light of the Changing Media
Zone 3. Repository of Light and Memory
Zone 4. Light as Beacone of Hope
Zone 5. Light of the Future

The exhibition begins by showcasing records that capture transformative moments in human history. It explores various forms of records, documents humanity's resilience in overcoming dark times, and presents how, through these records, people can continue to be inspired toward the future. Through exhibitions like these, ICDH aims to highlight the diverse aspects of documentary heritage and to envision its potential as a repository of content that bridges the past with the future.
