Collaboration for Inscription of the Collection of Records of Past Conflict Resolutions and Peace Efforts in Mindanao
According to a study by Batac and Bijnen in 2019, nearly two centuries of conflict and violence in Mindanao have finally come to an end. Their research sheds light on the significant toll of the conflict, including thousands of lives lost, millions displaced, and heightened international security concerns—issues that have been substantially alleviated through the ongoing commitment of the Philippine government and international peace advocates. While the world has seen many peacebuilding initiatives, many have been met with challenges. Today, the global community seeks sustainable and innovative approaches to achieving lasting peace.
Decades of documentation—encompassing peace agreements, audiovisual archives, and commemorative monuments—stand as testimony to the peacebuilding journey in Mindanao. These records contain valuable insights and lessons that can guide future generations in the pursuit of peace. By preserving and promoting access to this heritage, we can raise awareness among scholars, institutions, lawmakers, and citizens, cultivating a legacy of peace that extends beyond national borders.
To support this effort, ICDH will partner with organizations in the Philippines to prepare a nomination for inclusion in the "Memory of the World" International Register. This collaboration aims to ensure that these valuable records continue to inspire peace efforts worldwide, serving as enduring resources for global peacebuilding.
