The Discovery of Memory

The Discovery of Memory

Old memories were often preserved in the form of records. These records may have started with one person, but the memories they contain don't stay locked away in just one mind. Even though the way these memories are recorded may differ, the essence of the memory itself can be shared with others who lived in the same place, at the same time.

Over the years, we’ve accumulated countless records, many of which hold memories we never knew existed. Just because we were unaware of these memories, it doesn’t mean they disappeared. They were simply hidden, waiting for the right moment to be uncovered. Now, we want to bring these memories to light, allowing them to shine and help illuminate the world around us.

Our first space, The Discovery of Memory, is about the work ICDH has been doing to uncover and share these hidden traces of memory. It's about the memories of people who, despite their differences, worked together to create peace, and the memories of exchanges made possible through silk.

Through this exhibition, we invite you to rediscover the memories we’ve forgotten—memories that still have so much to teach us today.
